Calle Brewery in Vigan City:
Unbiased & Honest Food Review

I was scheduled to go back in Vigan on February 2020 and it was the perfect opportunity to try out the local restaurants I missed on my first visit. This time, I searched the web for the best restaurants in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur according to the reviews. One of the top restaurants on the list with the highest rating (rated 4.6 with 131 reviews as of writing) is Calle Brewery.

This pub offers locally-brewed beers and delicious smoked meats. When they’re not brewing, guests are allowed to look into the brewing area. I haven’t visited a brew pub ever since so I was really interested in visiting Calle Brewery. So we have come up with this unbiased food review to share our experience.

Let’s discuss more of it on the next section!

Here’s their menu and this is updated as of February 2020. Since the prices are already here, it should help you get an estimate on how much it will cost during your visit.

What We Ordered

We wanted to get the beer flight. For those of you who don’t know what a beer flight is, it consists of small servings of different beers. According to the menu, they offer a beer flight of 4 sample beers for P180 however, only 2 beers were available during our visit.

So we ordered a pilsner each of the available ones, Espada and Canyon.

The picture doesn’t tell much about the difference between the two but the Espada is less bitter (perfect for ladies) and Canyon has a stronger aroma with a citrus-like taste. Both have an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 5%, same with San Mig Light. We enjoyed both of it and it’s really nice to drink something that is different from the usual.

If you ever happen to visit Calle Brewery and try the rest of the beer variants, let me know in the comment section. I would love to hear about your experience!

For the food, we chose the one-meat BBQ Plate which has 150g of meat, rice, sauce, and 2 single sides. We were thinking of getting one order each but the staff recommended sharing the two-meat BBQ plate instead and adding one order of rice. We followed his suggestion and we’re glad that we did because the food was just enough for the both of us. (That’s good customer service!)

We chose the Beef Burnt Ends and Smoked Chicken. The sides were potato salad and mac and cheese because these are the only available sides at that time.

Feedback: Both were flavorful and it’s perfect pulutan for the beer. I still enjoyed it with rice though along with its sweet and spicy sauce (which was too spicy for me). I recommend that you combine both sauces to get the right amount of spiciness for you.

For the sides, the potato salad was cold like it came straight from the fridge. The mac and cheese had potential and I wished there was more cheese in it. The bread was slightly toasted (or maybe not?) and doesn’t have any flavor. I wish it was garlic bread!

Overall, I enjoyed eating the beef and chicken with the beer.

Ready to eat!

Our Final Verdict: Calle Brewery

I hope you guys enjoyed our honest and unbiased review of this brew pub in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Even though our food experience was not perfect and there were areas for improvement, I would still go back to Calle Brewery. You know why? It’s because I really appreciate businesses that support the local food scene.

It will also not be fair for me to judge a restaurant based on my first experience. There are lots of food and beer to try in Calle Brewery and for sure, my next visit will be another blast. Aside from Calle Crisologo, empanada, and longganisa, Calle Brewery is another reason why I will go back to Vigan.
