Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina: Tacos, Nachos, Quesadillas, and More

I’ve been recently watching this Netflix series called “El Chapo” and with only one episode left, it made me crave for Mexican food. Since I’ll be going out with my friends without any plans yet, one of them suggested (Migs) for us to eat at Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina.

Migs already tried their food with his teammates and his impression convinced me that it is worth the try. For him, Silantro is perfect for barkadas who prefer to share good food without spending too much.

But did Silantro meet my expectations? We went to their UP Town Center branch to find out.

Silantro Menu

Their menu looks promising, if you’re looking at what they offer. As a trying-hard Mexican food lover, I noticed that they have the basics in Mexican cuisine such as taco, nachos, and quesadilla. The price looks reasonable too so I wanted to try multiple dishes.

If you’re looking at the material of the menu itself, it needs some updating lol. But who cares about how the menu looks like if the food is THE bomb?

What We Ordered

Since we already had lunch, we decided to focus on light meals. The main course section includes rice so we didn’t try it – FOR NOW. Here’s what we ordered:

1. Beef Nachos

There’s another for P20 less but we ordered the one with beef.

Feedback: Looks delicious with its melted cheese on top. Tastes legit though I taste something “burnt” afterwards. Maybe because it was blow-torched? Or maybe it was put in the oven? If you know the answer, please let me know in the comments.

2. Calliente Wings

Calliente Wings

The one and only chicken wing dish at Silantro.

Feedback: The presentation looks “okay”, I mean the chicken doesn’t stand out much because it’s covered in shredded lettuce. But the taste? Wow. I loved it! It reminds me of those Korean chicken wings but it’s not too sweet.

3. Lucha Tacos

We had 2 orders of Completo and we got 3 beef tacos all-in-all; 2 of it were hard-shell and 1 was soft. The choices were beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and lengua.

Feedback: Craving satisfied! It was messy to eat though (maybe it’s just me lol). It doesn’t have a taste that will make you say that they have the best tacos but they surely met my expectations at a very reasonable price.

4. Silantro’s Quesadillas

I was thinking that the first 3 dishes we got might not be enough for us so I impulsively ordered quesadillas. It’s made from chicken and has fries on the side.

Feedback: Looks “okay”. Maybe I was looking for other colors on the plate. I find it a little bit salty and heavy on the stomach. The fries were surprisingly good.

5. The dip – FREE & Unlimited

Okay, so Silantro has 3 dips that can be paired with their dishes such as nachos, tacos, and yeah, basically almost everything. The brown one is spicy, your typical “amoy anghit” sauce. LOL. Sorry for the description. But not to the point that it’ll not turn you off, I promise! The green one, I find it bland so I mostly dipped my nachos into the white sauce that has a creamy texture. The food tasted better with it to be honest.

Other Things You Need to Know About Silantro

I consider us the lucky ones when we visited Silantro at UP Town Center. We got there around 4:00 pm and we immediately got a spot. So as for you guys, we suggest that you avoid peak hours (lunch and dinner time) to avoid the crowd.

1. Cost

We paid almost P950 for our meal, which makes it P316.67 per person. But as a reminder, most of the food we ordered were just appetizers so if you want to try their main course, it would cost more.

“Nabusog ka ba sa P300?”

Yes. Nabusog kami sa P300. 🙂

Our Final Verdict

If you’re still wondering if you should give Silantro a try, I would give you a big YES! I have eaten in other restaurants where I paid a lot of money but only got ordinary-tasting food.

But Silantro Fil-MEx Cantina has proven to me that good food doesn’t need to be expensive. My friends and I definitely had a great time while eating their delectable Mexican dishes. We loved them already just by trying their appetizers. What more if we try the main course?

So if you’re craving for Mexican food but doesn’t want to spend too much, you’re in the right place. You can order the same dishes we had but we suggest that you try the others too. Let us know what you got in the comments section (plus your feedback) so we’ll know what to order next.

And by the way, if you want to make the most out of your Silantro dining experience, bring your family and friends with you. Good food tastes better when shared with the people that matter to you. <3
